This is one of the only two Domaines in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet to have been awarded 3-stars by Clive Coates and it is no surprise given that over the past 20 years, the wines of Domaine Louis Carillon have been the most consistent of all the top Puligny domaines.

The Carillions have been involved in winemaking since as early as 1632 and while the tiny domaine is unable to compete with Domaine Leflaive in terms of range and number of top vineyards, the entire range wines from Carillion are made with great precision and purity.

Here the wines exhibit a purity, class and refinement that is always understated and complex and never in your face. It is a wine that grows on you.

Domaine Jacques Carillon was established after brothers Jacques (the winemaker) and Francois (vineyard manager) decided to go their separate ways and the Domaine including the vineyards and client list was divided after the 2009 vintage.

We are fortunate to follow Jacques Carillon. Afterall, he was the person responsible for making Domaine Louis Carillon world famous and he retained the Bienvenue Batard Montrachet parcel. Besides his tiny parcel of Bienvenue Batard Montrachet, he exploits vines from the premier cru vineyards of Perrieres, Referts and Champs Canet. These are riveting wines full of tension and minerality. While they can be approached young, do consider storing some bottles for several years to enjoy their secondary characteristics.

Alas, the tiny quantity this Domaine produces is always very popular and we are fortunate to get a small allocation for Singapore.
